I wanted to write about my inspiration for this piece, the Phoenix that rises from the ashes and how it represents overcoming difficult times in life but the truth is that sometimes life throws us a curve ball that just takes more endurance than we feel that we have inside of us. A very dear friend that lives across the country from me was recently diagnosed with not one, but three types of breast cancer. How unfair is that? I wish that there was more that I could do. I wish I didn’t live so far away so that I could go with her to every treatment and care for her while she recovers. I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all go away…. Of course, I can’t do that. Finally, I decided to make a piece of jewelry that would serve as a reminder that she is strong, brave and very much loved by so many people, but what could it be that wouldn’t seem superficial in the face of the journey she is about to take into the realm of “cancer treatment”? What could embody the hopes and prayers I wished to make tangible? I don’t think this piece is adequate but it does carry with it an enormous amount of love and positive thoughts.
